15 Deaths Confirmed So Far from Hurricane Irene
Hurricane Irene has roared up the Eastern Coast tearing things up, tossing trees around, flooding our streets, and claiming the lives of some people. Most of the deaths claimed are from trees falling on their homes or on their cars. There are a couple of deaths from the flooding that took over the roads and people drowned. But there are some deaths that I feel that could’ve been avoided.
Two of the deaths that are reported are from two 55 year old men in different places at different times that were in the ocean on their surf boards. They were tossed by massive waves created by Hurricane Irene into a violent current that took their lives. These deaths were avoidable. I cannot believe that two 55 year old men would go out into the ocean to “catch” a wave in dangerous situations like that. What were they thinking? They have left their families behind to be alone and to struggle in this economic down fall. They both were selfish and childish.
Another avoidable death occurred when people in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania decide to camp outside during the storm when a tree fell on one of the tents killing a 58 year old man. I don’t understand this death either. Why would people want to camp outside during a hurricane? It shouldn’t matter what size the hurricane, when a hurricane is said to be coming, it is dangerous to be outside when it gets to where you are.
I understand that people are bored and want to find new adventurous things to do but I wish that people would be careful. Hurricanes and tornados are very dangerous. These storms can pick up big things and throw them. Even if someone survives one of these storms outside, it doesn’t mean that you can survive all of the storms coming your way. I think that these deaths were avoidable and very stupid. Insurance shouldn’t pay for things such as this. Be responsible and act your age.
