Children Obesity

Mayor Using Cartoon for Kids' Anti-Obesity Project

Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines said he wants to stop childhood obesity. The mayor is using a cartoon made by Out Of Our Mind Animation Studios targeting children ages 5 to 13. Children watch about  4 to 6 hours of animation T.V. a day of some kind, so the idea is to talk directly to our children about the health risk of obesity. One of the programs biggest feature is the fully interactive, animated website where children can view the exercise videos and learn about eating healthy.

I think this is a great idea. I wish there was something like this when I was a child. I became overweight when I was 10 years old. I lived with my dad and grandma. My grandma would always say things like: "she is a growing child," or "clean your plate, think about those kids over in another country starving." Well, that didn't do me any good, it's just made my weight a yo-yo for the last twenty years. I know she only met good but it hurt me instead. My dad tried to get a handle on it but grandma would tell him to shut up. So what grandma said, is what went in that house.

So I wish there was someone out there that saw a problem growing back then and came up with something to get me off the couch for life. Diets are bad because they aren't realistic. I don't eat like diets suggest you to eat. But I still don't have a handle my weight and I've been depressed about it. I get looked at and I can see the judgment on their faces. I hope this plan for the children works. Obesity is a wide-spread disease and it's getting the children now. This is a great idea. There I said it again.
